The provincial capital and old seat of the kingdom, Luang Prabang, is strikingly situated on a narrow peninsula at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan Rivers. Until the Pathet Lao assumed power in 1975, Luang Prabang was the royal capital of the Kingdom of Laos. The city is known for its many Buddhist temples and monasteries and today, Luang Prabang is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.This province was the destination of Health Leadership International pilot training in 2008.
