Lao PDR Today

Lao PDR Today

The People’s Republic of Lao ranks as one of poorest countries in the world with a per capita annual income of US $385 (2004). Two-thirds of its more than six million inhabitants live in rural areas and the country’s heavily forested, mountainous terrain and lack of connective infrastructure make access to government services difficult. Distances between villages and districts are often measured not in kilometers but in walking days.
